Life-of-Gautama-Buddha

LIFE OF GAUTAMA BUDDHA-HISTORY

Gautama Buddha was born in 563 BC in the village of Lumbini near Kapilvastu in Nepal to a Kshatriya clan. Gautama Buddha’s original name was Siddhartha. His father’s name was Shuddhodhan & his mother’s name was Mahamaya.

His mother Mahamaya died on the seventh day of his birth. He was brought up by Gautami. At the age of 16, he married a princess named Yashodhara.

At the age of 28, his son Rahul was born. He left home in 534 BC at the age of 29. In 528 BC, at the age of 35, he attained enlightenment on the night of Vaishakh Purnima Under a pipal tree at Bodhigaya, on the banks of the Niranjana river in Bihar.

In 483 BC, at the age of 80, Buddha died in Kushinagar.
